Iron hearts

Even hearts became of metal…

Because we use so much technology to make our lives easier, these days, instead of doing that, the machines are making our lives harder, even if we don’t realize it.

The number of machines has grown, but our minds are more astray. Indirectly, the machines have started to control our lives, because we rely on them for a very large number of activities.

With all this cold technology surrounding us, our conscience isn’t cultivated anymore. At least not at the same degree that it was 150 years ago for example. Back then people used to work with animals and were more merciful, they had warmer hearts. If one would have loaded too much weight onto his animal, the poor creature would have bent under the pressure and the man would have felt mercy.

These days it’s a completely different story. When something breaks down, we don’t bother too much, we know that it can be fixed; and if it can’t be fixed it ends up being thrown away and nobody cares about that. We just buy a new one and pretend that everything is okay.

Well, not everything is okay, since our hearts are used less and less with the passing of time. This way, today’s society cultivates selfishness and individuality. Nobody thinks of helping other people. And even though not all selfishness is bad, the selfishness that today’s world is encouraging is not justified.

Altough we can’t throw away or stop using all the tech stuff that is said to make our lives easier, there are a quite a few things that we can do to prevent us from falling too deep in the selfishness trap.

  • Respond to your friends e-mails and calls more quicly.
  • Commit one selfless act every day. A selfless act is acting to benefit others at the cost of your own wants and needs. Don’t be scared, it will actually help you way more than it helps them.
  • Enroll in a volunteering service. People who do charitable work suffer less

The outside noise and the inside peace

“Noise lets us ignore our most difficult struggle and our most precious possesion: our true and only selves”

In today’s world, almost everything we use is noisy. Even my keyboard, as I type this, makes a lot of noise.
We’ve killed the silence of the nature with our noises, we’ve changed and ruined it using modern technology.

Today we’re all used to live in a world of noise. Many young people listen to loud music while they are reading. The noise is either an expression for their suppressed psyche or the noise itself is beginning to breed an agitated spirit, a stressed being.

It is said that an image is worth a thousand words… I would say that a moment of peace is worth millions of dollars.

But don’t despair, if you don’t have that kind of money to build a soundproof-mansion, there are a few simple things that you can do in order to help create a more peaceful world (peaceful in terms of silence):

  1. When you’re in the car, don’t immediately reach for the radio. I know it’s tempting, but don’t do it. Instead, take advantage of the quiet time and use it as a time of peace, use it to think about your life, ask yourself “am I a better person today than I was yesterday?”
  2. Try not to speak too loud. Apart from bothering other people, speaking loudly diminishes the connection between your mind and your body. So the chances that you end up talking nonsense skyrocket.
  3. Don’t abuse talking. Before you start talking, ask yourself a simple question: “is it necessary?”. When something is necessary to say, further questions will arise (how to say it, when to say it, etc…). “Speak only if you can improve the silence.”
