Living in a country where I can get an uncapped 120Mbps (15MB/s) internet connection for $20, I’m often shocked at the utter crap US companies are pulling (and getting away with) in the American market. Latest such example: Comcast.

They announced today that a new high speed broadband service (Extreme 105) is now available to 40 million people across the country, offering speeds up to 105Mbps (13MB/s) down and 10Mbps up. So far, great stuff.

But the thing costs $105/month – if you subscribe to an internet/phone/bundle. For those not willing to fork out extra money for the phone and TV services, the standalone Extreme 105 connection costs an extreme ~$200.

AND, it’s capped at 250GB per month. At full speed, it takes 5 hours and 20 minutes to blow through all of it.

WTF is the point of that?

I think it’s awesome Comcast is
finally bringing something like this to the smart phone market. Of course, as a DISH customer and employee
I’ve been able to do this for months…and just use my phone as a glorified
remote, either, but actually watch live or DVR’d TV using the TV Everywhere
    app.
