Who needs religion when you got this?

A new survey has discovered the unsurprising fact that Americans know pretty much nothing about religion, be it their own or that of others.

For example, 45% of Roman Catholics didn’t know that the bread and wine used in Holy Communion isn’t just a symbol, but becomes the body and blood of Christ. More than 50% of Protestants didn’t know Martin Luther inspired the Protestant Reformation. And about 40% of Jews didn’t know Maimonides, one of the greatest rabbis and intellectuals in history, was Jewish.

When it comes to knowledge about foreign religions, things are just as sad, with less than half of the respondents knowing that the Dalai Lama is Buddhist.

Americans also don’t know much about Canada, the UK or even their own history. But who needs to know all that stuff when there’s Google, right? Right?
