A recent study led by Professor Roger Hart of the University of Western Australia has confirmed a link between gum disease and fertility. More specifically, Dr. Hart says poor oral hygiene/health is bad for fertility and can delay conception by about two months.

Until now, there have been no published studies that investigate whether gum disease can affect a woman’s chance of conceiving, so this is the first report to suggest that gum disease might be one of several factors that could be modified to improve the chances of a pregnancy.

The research involved over 3,500 women and its findings were presented at a fertility meeting (is that what they call orgies these days?) in Sweden.

Of course, “forgetting” to floss is usually not enough to avoid pregnancy, so if you really hate babies you should also start smoking, drinking and eating twinkies all day long until your legs start looking like walruses. That should make you about as fertile as the Sahara desert.

If on the other hand you do want a baby, keep yourself as healthy as possible and don’t forget to take good care of your mouth. Your baby will thank you, and so will your husband’s penis (wink wink).
