Egypt is in an uproar. Again. This time over a tweet showing Mickey Mouse with a beard and Minnie in a veil. I know it sounds like a silly little thing, but apparently that’s deeply insulting and disrespectful towards Muslims. But then again, what isn’t?

The picture was tweeted by one of Egypt’s richest men, telecommunications mogul Naguib Sawiris, and thanks to it he is now facing formal complaints and calls to boycott his businesses. Shares in his largest company have already dropped and things don’t seem likely to improve too soon.

The businessman is accused of mocking Islam and even though he apologized for his tweet saying it was just a funny picture he shared as a joke, some Egyptians believe “there’s a fine line between expressing your opinion/freedom of speech and being flat out disrespectful.” To which I say, oh please.

I mean, we could probably agree that drawing/showing Muhammad cartoons would be offensive since it’s terribly blasphemous and all, but what’s offensive about Mickey and Minnie mouse wearing conservative Muslim clothing? Are Muslims offended by how stupid Mickey would have looked like if he was Muslim? If that’s the reason, we get it. We really do. Mickey Mouse would have been a shitty character if he was Muslim and nobody would have watched that crap. But that doesn’t explain the anger in this situation. Being angry at someone because your traditional religious clothing doesn’t look flattering on cartoon characters is borderline insane.

But maybe I got it all wrong and they’re angry because they were forced to see how unappealing and unfunny their religion is. Which, again, is totally understandable. After all, if you were to walk up to Jersey Shore’s Situation and tell him he’s a stupid douche he would feel offended too.

Whichever the case, though, Muslims outraged by this Mickey Mouse cartoon should pull the sticks out of the asses. If that doesn’t solve their problem, there’s only one other solution. Millstone. Neck. Deep blue sea.

Oh and last but not least, a Facebook group calling for boycotts against Sawiris says: “If you are really a Muslim, and you love your religion, boycott his projects. We have to cut out the tongue of any person who attacks our religion.

That’s one huge tree these people have up their butts.
