Bring it!

Discovery channel has this show called “Dirty Jobs,” which is profiling U.S. people working jobs that not many would dare do. Some of those jobs are yucky, some are scary and others are dangerous. But being a police officer in Mexico’s border region beats everything ever presented in that show.

The Mexican town of Guadalupe is located at the center of Mexico’s drug operations, near the US border. Over the years, most of the town’s police officers were either killed in the region’s drug war or resigned of their own will, until in July this year only one officer remained. Last week though, that last one was kidnapped by a group of gunmen.

Guadalupe is about 5km (3 miles) away from the US border and 60km (40 miles) from Ciudad Juarez, the centre of drug smuggling operations into the United States.

It is also close to the hamlet of Praxedis Guadalupe Guerreror, where a 20-year-old college student got the job of police chief in October because no one else applied.

You’re scary, Mexico.
