In case you haven’t heard about this, news broke last week that a San Francisco mother was injecting her 8-year-old daughter with Botox for cosmetic reasons.

There’s been a lot of noise about it all over the media, noise which eventually resulted in child welfare officials taking the daughter away from her mother. Lots of people said “good, she doesn’t deserve to be a mother if she injects her 8yo daughter with Botox,” but the latest information on the subject says she didn’t actually do it.

In a sworn declaration obtained by TMZ, the mother, Sheena Upton, claims she was approached by The Sun and asked “to play the role of Kerry Campbell” for a story called “I Give My 8-Year-Old Daughter Botox.”

She says the British tabloid paid her $200 and provided her with “the story, instructions and a script to follow for a recorded interview,” adding that “the truth is I have never given my daughter Botox, nor allowed her to get any type of waxing, nor is she a beauty pageant contestant.”

Following her declaration and medical tests indicating that her daughter did not receive Botox or any other such injections, child welfare officials returned Upton’s daughter to her.

Now sure, I guess that even though she didn’t inject her with Botox, she’s still not a perfect parent for going along with such a lowly scheme. But I don’t think anyone can blame her. I mean, she probably did it so she could be a better provider for her daughter. One has to be pretty desperate to agree to do something like this for only $200.

As far as the British tabloid goes, I can’t believe they were OK with making up “news” that could result in someone losing custody of their child. I get that it’s a tough market out there and it’s hard to gain an “edge,” but doing something like this is just so incredibly low, not to mention dangerous for their future, that it falls under the “never (ever) a good idea” category. They already had credibility issues and sh*t like this certainly isn’t helping address them. Unless the plan was to stir up controversy about themselves in the first place…

Anyway, I’m ending this here, thinking about this entire thing is just too disgusting right now.
