Japanese company invents tsunami survival capsule

What’s worse than being caught in the powerful, chaotic waters of a tsunami? Being caught in them while you’re sitting in a tiny capsule with four other people.

The Noah capsule designed by Japan’s Cosmo Power looks like it could potentially save some lives during future tsunamis, but in a way it’s kind of like attempting to spare a wet cat the horrors of the hairdryer by throwing it into the clothes dryer instead.

It does look like a really safe spot to crawl into during earthquakes, though.

Farmers drying chilies in Pakistan

What does Pakistan have to offer the world other than its renowned homegrown terrorists? Chilies!

In case you didn’t know, Pakistan is one of the world’s largest producers of chili peppers. I know it’s kind of an insignificant fact, but their chili fields do look nice during drying season.

How to get the new Facebook profile today!

In two weeks from today Facebook will officially launch a major rework of the user profile page. They’re calling it Facebook Timeline, and it’s one of the best updates they’ve rolled out in a quite a while.

As its name implies, the update adds a timeline feature that organizes your Facebook life in reverse chronological order based on the content you’ve shared. A most welcome addition since the social network doesn’t offer a search function for that stuff. Another other cool feature added by Timeline is the fact that you can now see who has unfriended you over time. Lots of people have been waiting for something like that and it’s finally here.

Anyway, Timeline is currently in a limited beta and only developers have access to it, but becoming a Facebook developer takes only 2 minutes and no special skills! The video below explains how to create a Facebook app and activate your Timeline right now.  If you’re not sure whether you should get it or not, do it, because it’s pretty awesome!

View from the International Space Station as it orbits our planet at night

YouTube has a whole lot of great videos (I may be exaggerating) but not many of them put things into perspective quite like this one does.

Watching it will make you wonder what you are doing with your life, contemplate the grandness of the universe, and probably lead you to realize how insignificant we all are in the grand scheme of things.

The timelapse has been created from a series of photos taken from a camera on the front of the International Space Station, and in case you’re not great with geography, the travel begins over the Pacific Ocean, continues over North and South America, and ends near Antarctica.

Oh and those blinking bright spots are thunderstorms.

BMW develops laser headlights for cars

What’s worse than staring into bright LED headlights while driving at night? Staring into lasers and having your retinas fried by them! But I’m just messing with you. According to BMW, their laser lights pose no risks to humans, animals or wildlife, so your retinas will be safe. It is not recommended to stare into them, though, as they are 70% brighter than LED lights.

It’s gonna be a few more years until laser lights will be mature enough to equip vehicles, but you’ll probably be able to see them in action earlier than that, on BMW’s i8 concept car.

Below is BMW’s press release on the subject.
