The YouTube hack – things you should know

Update: looks like YouTube solved the issue. The word “script” has been blacklisted and removed from all comments, the injection scripts are no longer working.

If you’ve visited YouTube today (4th of July, 2010), chances are that you’ve seen some strange things going on in the comments section of popular (& unpopular) vids.

The red text is marquee. It's a harmless implementation of the exploit

Best Buy lacks humor, makes puppy sad

Have you seen this video showing a hilarious conversation between a phone salesman and an iPhone fanboy?

That’s a funny video isn’t it? (it’s ok to disagree if you’re an iPhone fan)

Turns out Best Buy doesn’t think it’s funny at all and wants to fire Brian Maupin, the 25-year-old who created it. Brian lives in Kansas City, Missouri, and for the past three and a half years he’s been working at Best Buy selling mobile phones.

That YouTube video earned how much!?

On January 30, 2009, there was a video of a kid after dentist posted on YouTube. A really funny video.

Apple F’d up the iPhone 4 design?

Apparently Apple’s new phone has been so carefully engineered and thoroughly tested that nobody realized how big of a fuck-up the exterior antenna is.

A guy on the Macrumors forums found out that when he holds the new iPhone in his hands, touching the outside antenna band in two places, the phone drops reception. Placing the phone down gets him 4 bars.

iPhone 4 HD video quality is amazing [video]

I’m not an Apple fan nor do I own an iPhone, but I have to give it to them: this looks awesome and makes me want an iPhone 4.

Not long ago, video shot on mobile phones was bound to look horrible and lack more detail than a UFO sighting report. Washed colors, limited resolutions, choppy framerate, extremely poor sound, you know how it was.

When the HD recording was announced for the iPhone 4 I was very skeptical of it, thinking it’s going to be just another example of cramming many pixels on a small sensor, resulting in the usual poor video quality . But I’ve been proven wrong. It looks great! And while it’s no Flip Ultra HD, if you’re a vlogger and got no camera around, the new iPhone can definitely shoot (and edit) well enough for an emergency.

Check out this HD video sample recorded and edited on an iPhone 4 below.

iPad security

knock knock

The days when Apple could brag about their products being virus free and not needing any special protection might be over. And that, well, it makes me smile.

There was a time when Apple had a tiny market share compared to giant Microsoft. And their small share of the market, plus the fact that hackers are motivated by money and want to get access to the most amount of people (because that’s how the money is made), is the reason why Apple was safe from malware harm for a while – everyone was busy hacking Windows.
