The clip below was shot earlier today and it shows the bombardment of the city of Homs by Syrian loyalist forces. At least 50 civilians were killed.

Stephen Hawking has recently sent a letter to Intel co-founder Gordon Moore in which he said: “My speech input is very, very slow these days. Is there any way Intel could help?” Intel tasked a few groups to see what can be done to help Stephen, and they’ve built him a custom system based around the Lenovo X220 tablet.

The computer features an Intel Core i7 processor along with a forward-facing webcam, which Stephen uses to place phone calls using Skype.

 

Underneath the wheelchair is the black box, which contains an audio amplifier, voltage regulators and a USB hardware key that receives the input from the IR sensor on Stephen’s eyeglasses. The hardware voice synthesizer sits in another black box on the back of the chair and receives commands from the computer via a USB-based serial port.

Naturally, the PC runs Windows 7, because that’s what brilliant people require.

North Korean state television announced today that Kim Jong il, whom the Korean people and the world held in “high esteem,” died Saturday during a glorious train trip. He was aged 69. The television presenter said he died of physical and mental exhaustion.

As a side note, today is the birthday of Lee Myung-bak, the President of South Korea. Best birthday present he’ll ever receive!

Now, does Kim Jong il’s death mean things will finally change in North Korea? Nobody understands North Korea well enough to make any kind of meaningful prediction about this. The only certain thing Jong il’s death has created is the chance for change. Whether or not this chance will be used remains to be seen.

In a world where more and more people are slowly beginning to accept same sex marriage and see it as something normal, there are still some who frown at the sight of interracial couples. It’s embarrassing for our species, really.

The Gulnare Free Will Baptist church in Pike County, Kentucky, has banned interracial couples from joining its congregation after Stella Harville, long time church member, invited her Zimbabwe-born fiance to attend church with her.

The ban on interracial couples was proposed by a former pastor and passed this week with a 9-6 vote in its favor.

Guess the white people in that church felt intimidated by the black guy’s huge d, uh, faith.
