Oh dear god, what have you done?

Since internet addiction is a bit of an epidemic in China, they have internet addiction boot camps. They’re like rehabs for internet addicts, except the treatment consists of military drills, lectures, martial arts training, sessions with psychologists, torture with electric shocks and regular beatings with plastic pipes and wooden batons. And with a program like that it’s only natural that sometimes the boot camp workers become overzealous and beat a kid to death for not obeying orders.

Which is exactly what happened to 16 year old Chen Shi, just two days after he arrived at the Beiteng (read \ˈbē-tiŋ\) School in Changsha. His mother made him go by promising that he’ll be studying IT at the camp (which costs $3,400 for six months).

And it’s not just the fact that he was killed at the camp that’s messed up. Why on earth did his mother decide to pay a few thousand dollars to get her kid beaten up for sitting in front of the PC?

That’s hilarious! I know the internet / video games addiction is an epidemic now, not only in china, but also in other parts of the world. I wonder why those camp staffs need to hurt those children in order to get rid off their addiction. I thought they are the institution that are willing to help.

That’s what I’m wondering too. I hope the parents don’t know what’s going on in those camps, because if they did know and still chose to send their children there… there’s not much hope for the future of humanity.
