He was doing it wrong, but it worked.
Yang Jun was desperate after his broken marriage resulted in months of unbearable depression. So he took over 50 sleeping pills then climbed a bridge in Guangzhou, intent on throwing himself off and ending it all. But by the time he got to the top of the bridge he was feeling very sleepy, and as he talked to negotiators he nodded off and started snoring loudly, making the bridge jump part of his plan kind of impossible. Rescuers then strapped sleeping Jun into a safety harness and winched him down to the waiting paramedics.
“I couldn’t make up my mind which was better – an overdose or jumping. So I decided to use both. However I was feeling very sleepy by the time I got to the top and the next thing I knew I woke up in hospital.”
And not only was his life saved, but he is now reunited with his wife.
I’m not sure about you, but this is the best suicide attempt I’ve ever heard of.
