I had to use this picture instead of one showing the accident, because those are too disturbing.

In 2004, a Chinese villager (Qian Yunhui) from Zhaiqiao Village opposed a power company that got all the arable land in the village and offered no compensation to its 4,000 villagers. That abuse prompted Mr Qian and other villagers to visit government offices and protest the stealing of their lands, but their efforts ended when 130 of them got beaten and 72 arrested.

Since then, Mr Qian was arrested and imprisoned at least twice, but he continued to fight for his rights, against corruption. As a result of his courage and dedication, he recently became the overwhelming favorite of the villagers in a coming election for village chief.

… Until last Saturday at 8:30 a.m., when Mr Qian received a call on his cellphone and walked out as he was talking, only to be later discovered under a truck, victim of an unfortunate traffic “accident.” An event so accidental that several people had to hold him down in the road while a truck slowly drove over him. And of course, the CCTV camera at that intersection just happened not to work that day.

Classy, China.
