Look at that bear facepalming himself.

This is another one of those times when someone pretends the internet is in some sort of danger and they try to put forth some law to “protect” it.

The Council of Europe is an organization based in Strasbourg, has 47 member states, and it aims to promote human rights, the rule of law and democracy in Europe. Sounds like they’re the good guys, but I still think this recent global “internet treaty” proposal they unveiled last week at the Internet Governance Forum in Lithuania is a bunch of nonsense.

Under the proposed terms of the law, there would be cross-border co-operation between countries to identify and address security vulnerability and protect the network from possible cyber attacks or cyber terrorism.

It would also uphold rights to freedom of expression and association, and the principle of net neutrality, in which all internet traffic is treated equally across the network.

We already have those things and the internet is already free. These clueless organizations should lay their dirty little hands off of our internets, because the last thing we need is governments involved in managing and regulating it. That’s how they begin stripping freedoms away.
