Planking, or the Lying Down Game as it was known 100 years ago in internet time, has been around for a while but didn’t become a real craze until recently.
Thanks to Facebook and the competitive nature of plankers, the “sport” became a real hit with Australians. Aussie plankers would take pictures of themselves lying across furniture or during otherwise normal activities and post them on Facebook to one-up others. And it was all fun and games . . . until Darwin won after a guy fell 7 floors trying to do the ultimate plank (I guess you could say he walked the plank).
People are trying to out-do each other by planking on structures or in precarious positions putting themselves and others at risk, the Queensland Police statement said. “The potential for disaster increases as more and more risks are taken to get the ultimate photo.”
