A Maryland man wanting to get a job with the state’s Department of Corrections has been forced to share his Facebook login information for a background check.
It’s not surprising that the government would want to snoop around someone’s social media life, but asking for login information means breaking a Terms of Service contract – which should be worrying considering the positions they’re hiring for.
From Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities:
This Statement of Rights and Responsibilities (“Statement”) derives from the Facebook Principles, and governs our relationship with users and others who interact with Facebook. By using or accessing Facebook, you agree to this Statement.
4. Registration and Account Security:
8 – You will not share your password, (or in the case of developers, your secret key), let anyone else access your account, or do anything else that might jeopardize the security of your account.
So, um, since when is breaking a contract considered a job requirement for prison guards?
