Giving birth to him must have hurt.

I knew the obesity epidemic is a serious global problem, but holy hell, did we already reach the point where even unborn babies are too fat?

A team of British doctors seems to think so.

A three-year medical trial-slash-study will be conducted at Liverpool Women’s Hospital to try and reduce the food supply unborn babies get from their mothers in order to prevent them from getting the size of elephants. Leading the trial is Dr Andrew Weeks who says “it is about trying to improve outcomes in pregnancy for women who are overweight. The problem is babies tend to be larger and many of the downsides of being overweight during pregnancy relate to the birth.”

During the study, half of the patients will take Metformin pills up to three times a day from 12 weeks gestation, while the other half will be given placebo drugs.

Doctors hope it will prevent the birth of oversized babies, thereby reducing the need for caesarean sections.

You know your species is doomed when babies are too large to exit their wombs through the usual hatches.

At this rate, in 10 billion years we won’t be humans anymore, we’ll be elephants.
