Sexy flying car from the movie "Immortal"
The days we’ve all been dreaming for since we were kids are getting closer and closer. Yes, I’m talking about super sexy flying cars (to be read: ugly flying car-planes).
Recently, the US aviation authorities (FAA) granted the Transition (that’s the name of the car-plane) a maximum takeoff weightof 1430 pounds, clearing one of the major hurdles it had and bringing it one step closer to being commercially available. Classified as a Light Sport Aircraft, the Transition requires a Sport Pilot certificate to fly and is designed to drive on public roadways, takeoff and land at airports, and park in a standard garage.
Now, the thing that seems very impractical to me is why on earth would anyone want to buy a flying car if they still have to go to an airport with it? It doesn’t look good enough to make you want to drive it everywhere, and I am willing to bet that it’s nowhere near as comfortable as a luxury sedan (which you probably own if you’re thinking of buying a flying car). If I was rich enough to luxury automobiles and planes, I’d just buy a small private plane and rent a car from wherever it is I’m going to. Much more comfortable and nice looking.
I guess it can be a cool toy to have in your garage though.
