Remember a few months ago when international investigators said Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi had a $100 billion fortune? It was such a huge number that news of it made headlines around the world. However, it was way off.
Subsequent investigations into Gaddafi’s finances have revealed many secret foreign investments and deposits that he kept under the name of government institutions, neither of which were included in the initial estimation.
Taking the new information into account, Gaddafi’s fortune is now said to have been a plump $200 billion (!).
I’m sure all of you realize that’s a whole lot of money, but to put it into perspective, if you were to split it evenly between Libya’s 6.4 million people, every single person (including babies and young children) would receive $31.153.
And yet, even with all that wealth, his life ended in a daze; dragged out of a gutter, beaten and executed.
