I've always wanted to use this.

A German student from a small town near Hanover was in Berlin in the spring of 2009 when his iPhone was stolen. Naturally, he reported the theft to the local police and went home.

Earlier this year he had flown to Sydney for an English course when he was contacted by the Berlin District Court saying he must attend the hearing of the suspect as his presence was considered “vital.”

“I told the woman on the phone that I could only get first class tickets because of the short notice and she said, OK, go ahead.

I only spoke for about 30 seconds in court last Friday. Then I got reimbursed and I returned to Australia.”

The 9,998 miles first class flight ended up costing the court $11,000. The phone thief, 19, had no money and was only sentenced to a weekend’s detention. But wait, it gets even better, because after all that, the guy didn’t even get his phone back.

But who cares about the phone, right? Expensive justice was served!
