An Indonesian political figure went to a Citibank branch to pay what he was expecting to be a credit card bill of around $5,500. At the bank, he was told his bill had grown to $11,500. The man thought “WTF?” and protested the increased bill, forgetting that one does not simply protest increased credit card bills.
Because of his protest and refusal to pay the new bill, three angered debt collectors attacked and killed the man. A Jakarta police detective said “the motive of the murder is due to debt [issues], a credit card bill that didn’t fit [the formerly-given figure]. We’ve found evidence at the crime scene in form of blood traces on the curtains and on the walls of the room on the fifth floor.”
Now that’s just bad business practice, Citibank. Even the thugs at the corner know better. How is the dead guy going to pay his debt now? Kidnap his family if you want to make him pay, don’t kill him. Or maybe, oh… you’re going to force the debt out of his family. I see. Smooth move.
