Obviously not related.

A member of the Army Reserves who was never on active duty at Florida’s MacDill Air Force Base has managed to procure housing on the base and illegally store a significant quantity of weapons and munition in it.

Though ineligible for base housing, Bennett “repeatedly” pretended to be on “active duty military orders.” Last January, Bennett–dressed in a military uniform–visited MacDill’s Base Housing Office and claimed to have just gotten off a plane with Admiral Eric Olson, who heads the clandestine U.S. Special Operations Command.

Bennett allegedly claimed that he was working as Olson’s aide and that the four-star Admiral “had directed him to obtain government housing as quickly as possible.”

His scheme went on for 3 months and was only discovered after he was arrested for drunk driving at an entrance gate to the base. At the time of his arrest he was carrying a loaded handgun, while his vehicle contained a second loaded gun, seven knives, a machete, a collapsible baton, mace, a stun gun, ammunition, a sling shot with BBs (wtf?) and a box of throwing stars. After obtaining a search warrant for his home on the military base, authorities discovered “seven loaded firearms; approximately 9389 additional rounds of ammunition; numerous knives; brass knuckles; an electric stun gun; and a collapsible baton, in addition to other weapons and prohibited materials.”

Le oops! But I’m not surprised. A year ago I would have been, but after learning that 2.5 million US military and civilian have access to Siprnet (a defense department network used for the exchange of classified information) it’s hard to be shocked by small blunders. Nonetheless, it is still quite embarrassing.
