Me too.
The US Consumer Electronics Association has said that if companies want to make use of the personal information people put online, they should be paying for it – it seems normal and it’s about time they did.
“If people are fully informed, have control of their data and choose to opt in to some sort of scheme that offers payments for sharing information or price reductions, then I think that is fine.
The problem is that right now so much of this is done in the dark with online companies effectively looking over your shoulder while you are online and have no idea your information is being shared.”
Even though there are no business models built around the concept at the moment, people in the industry believe that reward systems for sharing personal information with companies will be hitting the web in the next few years. That is, if Facebook doesn’t sell leak all our info first making it worthless.
But I find it refreshing that there are companies which want to give users control of their data and allow those willing to give their information away a chance to make money from it.
