Summer days can get insanely hot in big cities. All that concrete, the cars, the millions of people. And there’s not much you can do to avoid the heat. Sure, you could crank up the AC at home and in your car, but what if you’re outside, walking? You could wear light clothing, but sometimes even that can be too much.

If you’re a guy you could just walk around shirtless without getting in legal trouble or being stopped by the police, but what if you’re a woman? Well, it turns out you can do the same, because the law allows it. You might still get looks of disapproval from some people, though.

Just make sure you have a great looking rack if you choose to do it, otherwise I’ll press charges against you for trying to blind me.

Who says it’s legal for women to be topless in NY? NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Public Information Paul Browne does (or rather confirms it):

The state’s highest court established long ago that women have the same right as men to appear topless in public. Absent a link to some commercial enterprise or promotion, the woman’s lack of certain attire in this instance does not appear to be a police matter.
