A research project by TNS interviewed 50,000 consumers in 46 countries and looked at their online behaviors.
Among the findings – Malaysians users have the most friends on their social networks (233 on average), while Japanese users have the fewest (29 on average). My explanation for that is simple. Japanese users didn’t add a lot of friends because they don’t need anyone sending them pieces to build barns on Farmville. And the research supports my theory, because “as well as having the most friends, Malaysians are also the heaviest users of social networking sites, spending an average of nine hours per week on them” (most likely playing Farmville).
The other findings of the research project:
- Digital sources are overtaking traditional ones as the media channel of choice for 61% of the online population around the world.
- People are spending more time on social networking sites than they do using e-mail.
- In China four out of five users have written their own blog, compared to only 32% in the US.
PS: Stay strong and don’t give in to Farmville, Japan. We need you to create more cool gadgets and anime.
