Continuing Japan’s rich WTF tradition, the Japanese government has announced plans to build a whole new city that would serve as a back-up for Tokyo.

The main purpose of the standby city would be to act as a back-up for Tokyo’s political functions in case something were to happen to the capital, but it will also include office complexes, resort facilities, casinos and parks, as well as a 652-metre-high office building. The concept city, called IRTBBC (Integrated Resort, Tourism, Business and Backup City) was planned to accommodate a population of 50,000 residents and a workforce of 200,000.

During the public launch of the project, a member of Japan’s ruling Democratic Party said : “The idea is being able to have a back-up, a spare battery for the functions of the nation.”

Not a bad idea, Japan. Not a bad idea at all.
