A lawyer working for Queensland university showed off his ignorance by recording himself smoking lawn clippings rolled in pages from the Koran and the Bible and then posting the clip on YouTube. His argument for the action was “It’s just a fucking book. Who cares?.”

Maybe he should also be burning his employment contract, birth certificate and mortgage documents. They’re just fucking pieces of paper, who cares?

What I find hilarious is that after he got his 5 minutes of fame he wrote on the Brisbane Atheists website that: “I’m screwed. I think I will lose my job over this. Damn it.” It reminds me of something Homer said in a Simpsons episode, “Why do my actions have consequences?”

I’m all for freedom of speech and expression, but using that to promote religious intolerance isn’t doing anyone any good. Religious tolerance is wisdom that people have arrived at after tasting the tragedy of bloody religious wars. If we lose it we might have to learn it the hard way again.
