Speaking at a Marie Claire panel on social media, Randi Zuckerberg, Mark Zuckerberg’s sister and Facebook’s marketing director, said:

I think anonymity on the Internet has to go away. People behave a lot better when they have their real names down. … I think people hide behind anonymity and they feel like they can say whatever they want behind closed doors.

I think Randi Zuckerberg has to go away. Far, far away. Because her ideas are those of a corporate figure who doesn’t realize that an internet where you have privacy is worth infinitely more (to its users) than an internet where you have zero bullying and harassment.

Even if the concept worked, sacrificing everyone’s online privacy for the sake of the 5% who get bullied is a shitty deal. It’s like trying to end crime everywhere by killing all humans. You get what you want, but in the end it doesn’t really benefit the victims at all.

But of course this was never about caring for people on the internet, this is about Facebook trying to gather more accurate data on users so they can charge a higher premium for the ads they sell.
