WikiLeaks makes Putin sad.

Another day, another round of WikiLeaks news. Pretty much everything else in the news today is nonsensical fluff.

  • Russian leaders are afraid that WikiLeaks could release information that might expose their corruption and have put the organization under close surveillance by the Russian FSB (The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation). “Last month, the Russian news agency Life News quoted an official from the FSB’s Center for Information Security as saying that the government would be capable of organizing ‘the right team’ to target WikiLeaks and ‘shut it down forever.’” Which makes everyone wonder… whatchu hiding there, Russia?
  • An advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada has said in a televised interview that he thinks Julian Assange “should be assassinated” and suggested Barack Obama “should put out a contract and maybe use a drone.” And here I was hoping Canada was still sane…
  • U.S. officials want the death penalty for guy who leaked the sensitive diplomatic files to WikiLeaks. Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee and ex-Pentagon official KT McFarland are among those claiming he should face execution for putting national security at risk by leaking the inflammatory information. That is after other political figures have said the leaks don’t contain anything important.
  • The U.S. Embassy in Madrid conspired to derail investigations at the Spanish High Court that targeted US government officials for alleged war crimes in Iraq, torture at the Guantánamo prison camp and clandestine CIA flights with Al Qaeda suspects on board. Washington also intervened. No wonder they want Assange gone.
  • The Interpol has issued a “Red Notice” (the equivalent of F.B.I.’s Most Wanted) for the arrest of Julian Assange in connection with a sex crime investigation in Sweden – which suddenly resurfaced when he started making powerful people feel uncomfortable. “Assange has denied any wrongdoing, and hinted that the complaints are the result of a U.S. ‘smear campaign’ targeting WikiLeaks — leading some supporters of the group to publicly investigate the two women and their families.” According to Swedish news sources, Assange had separate encounters with two women during his August visit to Sweden, encounters which the women claim to have turned from consensual to non-consensual. To be honest, I’ve rarely heard anything more ridiculous than that.

With all these people trying to stop what he’s doing, it’s obvious Assange is doing something right. Stay strong, Wikileaks!

PS: why the world needs WikiLeaks.
