Takecontrolphilly is a website launched by Philadelphia’s Department of Public Health for the purpose of making condoms freely available to teens. Great initiative, except that the lower end of the age requirement is a little too low at 11.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for encouraging teens to practice safe sex. But holy jesus on a raptor, aren’t there better things they could be doing for 11 year olds other than mailing them free condoms? That just seems like a lazy, easy way to work around the real issue, which is this:
“”We hear from teachers and school counselors and sometimes the principals that kids are cutting school in the afternoon and leaving early to go have orgies — and that’s in middle school,” said Gary Bell, executive director of Bebashi-Transition.”
What the hell?… I mean, I’m pretty liberal when it comes to sex, but, um, giving condoms to 11 year olds so they can have safe orgies? And encouraging them to keep doing it by saying sex is more fun when you’re not worried about getting pregnant or getting an STD ? Who’s the idiot behind this crap and why does he still have a job?
Hey Philly, here’s a tip if you want to help children: start providing them with actual sex education. Giving them free condoms is about as effective as giving a guy doing 200mph in a 60 zone a free car so he won’t have to worry about crashing his current one.
