garden.jpgHere’s a funny story that made me laugh out loud. How to help your old man dig his potato garden if you are in prison?

The solution is simple, but most of us would never think of it.

An old man lived alone in the country. He wanted to dig his potato garden but it was very hard work as the ground was hard. His only son Fred, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament.

Dear Fred,
I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my potato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here, all my troubles would be over I know you would dig the plot for me.
Love,
Dad

A few days later he received a letter from his son.

Dear Dad,
For heaven's sake, don't dig up that garden! That's where I buried the BODIES!
Love,
Fred

At 4am the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son.

Dear Dad,
Go ahead and plant the potatoes now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances.
Love,
Fred

This story isn’t just fun, it also carries an important message: there is always a way!

If Fred managed to find a way to dig his dad’s garden from within the walls of his prison, then imagine what you can do, with so much freedom on your hands! It’s not impossible for you to become the next Bill Gates or to travel in space.

Whatever your dream is, there is always a way to achieve it. Just look around and you’ll find it. If a prisoner and a snail have achieved things that seemed impossible, then impossible is nothing!

Keep moving forward and start looking around!

That Fred sure looks like a smart guy.. If you come to think about it, how do smart people get in jail? Don’t they know doing crimes is a bad thing? :D

He sure did know that crimes are bad, but being smart isn’t synonymous with being good! ;)
And how do you know he didn’t want to get in jail in the first place? :D

Hehe.. prison break is a nice series(I assume you got the idea with wanting to go to jail from there).. And you’re right, being smart isn’t synonymous with being good. But smart guys don’t get cought.. Right?

Actually, I didn’t get the idea from Prison Break. Well, at least not consciously… :)
Why wouldn’t a smart guy get caught? If smarter guys are after him, he gets caught. Only a genius won’t get caught!
Because Fred is (“just”) smart, he gets the garden dug. If he would’ve been a genius, he could have even planted the potatoes for his father. But Fred isn’t. And if he isn’t a genius and he still managed to do that – dig the garden – from his jail cell, then each one of you can do similar things in life. Because you don’t have to be a genius to reach bold goals!
PS: Of course the story with Fred is fictional, but it’s principles apply in real life.
