In fantastic news for nobody, Coca-Cola and Kim’s Fried Chicken Kentucky Fried Chicken will be opening stores in North Korea by the end of the year.
Too bad most of the North Korean population will be too busy being dirt-poor and only the 5 people who are part of the North Korean elite will enjoy Cokes with their KFC. And even if the average North Korean could afford to buy anything from a fast food chain, imagine the impact it would have on their bodies. Going from eating scraps of bread and dirty water to fatty foods and Coke is anything but healthy.
The only bright side to this “cultural invasion” could be the slow introduction of a Westernized lifestyle which might normalize Pyongyang’s relations with the rest of the world. But that’s a long shot at a lengthy process.
