So it turns out that South Park embarrassed Scientoology so hard with its 2005 “Trapped in the Closet” episode that the church cult decided to run a deep “public records check” on the show’s creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Their hope was that they could find enough discrediting/damaging information to ruin the two and make them regret the episode.
The information about the intentions of the cult has been leaked by former Scientology executive Marty Rathbun, who said Scientologists would be looking for: “Phone records. Bank records. Personal letters that expose some kind of vulnerability. They’ll read stuff into the kind of alcohol you’re drinking and how much. Prescriptions. They’ll figure out your diet. They can find out a lot about you through your trash.” So far, they’ve found nothing.
Honestly though, I don’t know what Scientologists were hoping to uncover that would embarrass Stone and Parker. I mean, how do you embarrass two people who are proud of creating a talking turd character?
