During a news conference that took place yesterday, TEPCO executive vice-president Takashi Fujimoto said his company offered 20 million yen ($238,000) to 10 villages located close to the Fukushima nuclear plant as payment for the troubles of their people.
Now, there are around 20,000 people living in those 10 communities, which makes the money offered by TEPCO work out to a whooping $12 US per person. More than enough to cover the cost of relocating for a family living in Congo, but in Japan that’s such a low amount it almost seems insulting. I’m insulted and I don’t even live there.
