Fly goes in, magic comes out.

A pair of British designers, James Auger and Jimmy Loizeau, have created the most awesome clock ever. It’s a robotic clock that serves a weird double purpose: telling time and killing flies.

The prototype clock traps insects on a flypaper system that stretches across two rolls and then deposits them into a microbial fuel cell – essentially a vat of bacteria. When the bacteria consume a fly, electricity is produced, which is captured and used to power the LCD and the rollers.

As far as specs go, the prototype isn’t shabby at all. On a diet of 8 flies, the robotic clock can power itself for 12 days – more than enough time to capture another 8 and continue the process.

Me wants.

PS: The two designers have created 4 other carnivorous domestic robots. You can read about them on their page.
