Generic brand of brainwash.

Ynetnews.com, the online version of the most circulated paper in Israel, reports that Haredi (ultra-Orthodox Jews) groups and rabbis have started a campaign to scare their communities away from watching web porn the internet.

Pashkvilim (posters) placed in Haredi neighborhoods are warning that “where there is internet, there are no rains,” while others urge the Haredim to “remove the idolatry from among us. Hundreds of thousands of cancer patients (suffer) because of the internet.”

Phrases used in other posters include “the connection to the Internet is an abomination, and the one who does it in his home brings abomination into his home” and “the Internet causes disease and all types of adversity. Since the creation of the world, there has never been invented a tool so dangerous and corrupting like it.”

They even went as far as to use gematria (a system which assigns numerical value to Hebrew letters) to prove that the internet is cancer – “internet” is the gematria of 319, which is the same as the gematria for “cancer.”

I’m usually trying to be understanding when it comes to other cultures, but in this case I find that to be too damn difficult, as the stupidity of it all is absolutely breathtaking.

PS: It’s not the first time they’ve had a campaign like this. This guy wrote about something similar in 2009.
