I am waiting right now for the results of my 2nd IVF treatment (1st one failed), and I feel that neither hopelessness nor over-confidence helps at all, rather trying to remain as balanced as possible means that either result will be taken with some degree of equanimity. I follow one of the forums for IVF support, and I notice it with all the ladies there. The one who was the most positive and optimistic created this huge wave of support from all the others, but was utterly devastated when her result was negative. The ones that are the most negative do occasionally get nice surprises, but also when their cycles fail, it's like yet another nail in the coffin of their psyche.

I totally agree.
