As if the infamous Westboro Baptist Church wasn’t spewing enough extremism and hate towards Jews, gays, blacks, Christians, and everyone else disagreeing with their views, a Florida church plans to host a “burn a Koran (Qur’an) day on 9/11,” because they thought Muslims were being neglected their fair share of hate.
The Dove World Outreach Center, a non-denominational church in Gainesville with “Islam is of the devil” signs in its front lawn is also hosting protests on other issues, such as homosexuality, same-sex marriage, and abortion.
Pastor Terry Jones, who authored a book titled “Islam is the Devil,” said organizers got the idea for the “burn a Koran (Qur’an) day,” in part, from another Facebook page, called “Everybody Draw Muhammad Day.”
Sept. 11 will fall during the Eid al-Fitr holiday this year, when Muslims mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Local Muslims are planning to use the feast as an opportunity to share Islamic traditions and Qur’ans with the church members and the wider community.
Way to go towards understanding and tolerance. This is the reason why we can’t have nice things. Some people can’t live, let live and shut up.
