Because many readers responded positively to a previous post that required a simple counting of how many F’s are in a text, I thought of posting another brain exercise. This one will get your brain on its knees using some simple colors.
What you’ll need to do in this exercise is to read aloud the color of the words below – not the color named by them – and time your performance.

Pink Purple Orange Purple Orange White
Yellow Pink Red White Pink Purple
Orange Gray Orange Pink Gray Green
Gray Red Yellow Gray Red Blue
Green Purple Gray Red Orange Blue
Purple Pink Red White Blue Yellow White
Gray Yellow Blue Red Gray White Green
Gray White Gray White Blue Red White
Orange Purple Orange White Orange Yellow
Blue Purple Red Pink Blue Pink

Wondering why it is so difficult and tiresome? The answer is that the right half of your brain is trying to say the color and the left side of your brain is trying to say the word; there’s literally a war going on between the two sides.
Note: there are no “good” or “bad” results here; if you are having big trouble doing this it is because your left and right brain are in conflict. Also, women have a harder time at this than men.
