Two Indian newspapers, The Times of India and The Hindu, featured a world first: incredibly annoying talking ads. Basically they had a bulky light-sensitive speaker chip that was activated when the paper was unfolded, telling readers about Volkswagen cars and how German they are.

Other than the obvious nuisance of having an ad talk to you while being unable to stop it, the “innovation” also prompted calls to the police, bomb squads, and delayed a flight.
