The WMO (World Meteorological Organization) says that from the beginning of winter until late March we’ve lost 40% of the ozone layer above the Arctic region – a record-breaking feat!
The previous record for major ozone loss was 30% over several winter seasons in the last two decades. Managing to double the pace is something we should all be proud of. While we still can.
The World Meteorological Organization blames the “record loss” on the “continuing presence of ozone-depleting substances in the atmosphere” and a “very cold winter in the stratosphere.” – CNN
