Exactly one year ago a 7.0 magnitude earthquake destroyed most of Haiti’s Port-au-Prince, killing an estimated 220,000 people and leaving millions of others without homes. Nations around the world pledged to help the country rebuild, and the amount of money raised by the US alone has reached a staggering $1,4 billion. In spite of this, though, a recent survey by the Chronicle of Philanthropy shows that only 38% of that money has been spent on efforts to provide recovery and rebuilding aid. One million people are still living in unsanitary conditions in tent camps and Haiti looks pretty much the same as it did right after the quake.

What happened to the rest of the money?
