A recent study has found that the colors typically used to paint wind turbines, white and gray, attract the most insects. And the problem with that is that those insects draw in bats and birds, which are then killed by the turbine blades.
The study has revealed that at some sites, 20 to 40 bats are killed each year per turbine. It might not sound like a lot, but there are hundreds of thousands of wind turbines worldwide and when the numbers are added up… that’s a lot of dead bats.
