Mark Haub, who is a professor of human nutrition at Kansas State University, went on a two-month diet experiment during which he ate nothing but junk food (twinkies, nutty bars, powdered donuts, chips, oreos) in an attempt to lose weight and be healthier.

By the end of the two months, he had lost 27 pounds. His LDL (bad cholesterol) levels dropped by 20% while his HDL (good cholesterol) increased by 20%.

His “secret” (which should be obvious) is that he consumed significantly less calories than he burned. Only 1,800, while burning 2,600.

Before the experiment he was eating a “healthy” diet that made him unhealthy, because he was eating too much of it.

Why does this matter? Because a lot of people seem to be confused by the weight-loss industry and forget that it’s all about calories in vs calories burned. Eating junk food all the time may not be healthy in the long-term, but you can definitely lose weight with it. And you can get fat and unhealthy by eating “healthy” foods.

    I love eating donuts! However I don’t totally agree that
    eating donuts would help you to lose some pound. Instead of losing, I gained
    one kilogram on my weight by just being obsessed on eating donuts.

     Sometimes wrong understanding and consumption of food may
    make you a bit confuse f that would really help you in losing weights. Eating
    of junk food is not that bad for sometimes your body needs calorie and sugar to
    function well. And with that upon eating healthy foods doesn’t mean that you will
    loss weight easily.

    thought junk foods are bad for the health; but that would not be bad if just
    taken moderately. And I never thought that junk foods could help lose
    weight. I thought junk foods brought only satisfaction for those persons
    who are fond of eating junks.

    Not that amazing actually. It’s a matter of intake/consumption. If you burn 2000 calories a day and get 1700 from donuts, you’re going to lose weight.

    Works the other way around too. If you were to eat 5000 calories worth of fruit every day while only burning 2000 calories, you’d quickly turn into a hippo.

    Of course, this doesn’t apply to people with glandular problems and busted metabolisms.
